Byron Bay day trip…

Now i think everyone that knows me is aware that I’m not a huge beach fan. Despite the rain and overcast skies we ventured down to Byron Bay and surrounding areas for a day trip. Ilona had a colleague out from America so we decided to give him a grand tour.

The weather was pretty much overcast and raining all day but we battled on and had a lovely lunch down in Bangalow and managed to do pick up a few vintage boxes and oars from the local antique shops. Perfect for the prop room!

Overcast beach days are my kinda beach days!

Earlier this year I was asked to shoot the cover of Insurance & Risk Professional magazine. My subject was Don McKenzie. I was really happy with the shoot and one of my favourite shots of 2010 came out of it. Ill be posting a couple of my favourite portraits from this year over the coming weeks.

Friday afternoon at the studio…

Well my blog has definitely been neglected… I am really pushing myself to try and keep this up and at least aim for one addition a week.

Kicking it all off, I’ll talk about Friday drinks at the studio. I am trying to get a group of friends from within the industry and the outside world to join me at the studio on Friday afternoons. Not everyone works in an office and so Friday afternoon drinks is something freelance creatives miss out on. We talk industry stuff, hang out and take photos and just enjoy the beauty of being a freelance creative!

So the next catch up is planned for Friday the 24th of September all are welcome! Usually kicks off around 5ish.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

For some of Queensland’s youth living on the streets, this is a hard question to answer… On any given night across our great country more than 25,000 young Australians sleep without a permanent roof over their head. Armed with my camera and the growing involvement of the Carina Youth Agency we are hoping to bring a fresh approach to work experience as we aim to tell the stories of young Australians struggling with homelessness and unemployment in Queensland.

By matching local businesses with young people who are already involved in the Carina Youth Agency programs, we hope to give them the opportunities and work experience within the industries they see themselves working in, in the future.

While they are in training I will photograph them, producing a portrait as a time stamp of what the future can hold. With these images I hope to have a gallery -showing, to raise money for the Carina Youth Agency and homelessness in general.
